What type of clients do best with you?
Clients who are seeking active therapy, who are looking for a clinical psychologist who will provide them with expert knowledge and support to help them implement strategies to improve their wellbeing. This clinic is not suited to clients seeking listening-only counselling e.g.” I just want somewhere I can vent/ talk”. Whilst listening is an important part of psychological therapy, listening alone will not be effective in creating meaningful change in quality of life for most clients.
What is your fee?
My current fee for a 50 minute consultation is $190 (discounted from the full fee rate of $246 as recommended by the Australian Psychological Society) . The fee will increase to $200 on January 1, 2017. Rebates are available through Medicare and private health insurance. Clients who hold a valid health care card may negotiate a fee with me prior to scheduling an appointment. No bulk-billing is offered.
Medicare Service Clients referred on a GP Mental Health Plan to a specialist Clinical Psychologist are eligible to claim a rebate from Medicare of $124.50 per consultation. No bulk-billing is offered.
Veterans (DVA) – Linden Clinical Psychology is proud to support veterans. Linden Clinical Psychology accepts clients with DVA Gold and White Card holders with a referral from a GP.
Private Health Insurance If you have Ancillary Cover with a private health insurance fund, you may claim a rebate for Clinical Psychology services. Clients should contact their relevant health fund for the latest rebate rates quoting the item code for an individual consultation of AO70. Private health rebates cannot be used if referred under Medicare.
Insurance Clients. Clients seeking treatment under Motor Vehicle Accident or Workers Compensation Insurance will be charged at the full APS recommended rate of $246. Invoices will be sent directly to the insurer. The client is liable for the cost of treatment if the claim is not accepted. Please obtain written confirmation of agreement to fund your appointments from your insurance case manager prior to attending your first appointment.
How can I make my payment?
EFTPOS facilities are available at Linden Clinical Psychology. Payment is required at the time of the consultation and Medicare rebates are available on the spot. Cancellations without 24hrs notice will attract a cancellation fee . You are encouraged to keep your appointment even if you feel bad. Research shows that people who get the most out of therapy regularly attend sessions.
Do I need a referral?
A referral to see a clinical psychologist is only required if you wish to claim a rebate through Medicare. Referrals can be obtained from your local General Practitioner. Your GP is required to lodge a Mental Health Care Plan with Medicare Australia. When booking an appointment with your GP, be sure to mention you are seeking a Mental Health Care Plan. If you have problems obtaining a referral, please phone (or have your GP phone) me on 0411 564 587
Under Medicare, all psychology Medicare services are limited to a maximum of 10 individual sessions per client per calendar year, with a review by the referring doctor required after the initial six sessions.
How long are the sessions and how many sessions will I need to attend?
Sessions are 50 minutes in duration. The number and frequency of sessions is dependent upon a number of factors including: (i) the severity of the problem; (ii) whether a number of problems exist concurrently (e.g., severe depression & panic disorder); (iii) how ready, willing and able you are to implement strategies discussed during sessions. I will spend some time in the first 1-2 sessions discussing with you an estimated number of sessions and their frequency.
How do I know it will help?
Psychological treatment using clinically proven therapies has been shown to be very effective. The impact of psychological treatment varies from one person to the next and depends on a range of factors including frequency of session attendance, commitment to therapy activities outside of session and psychosocial support. Most people show improvement quite quickly, while for some it makes longer for improvements to occur.
What type of therapy do you offer?
At Linden Clinical Psychology I use clinically proven therapies. A treatment will be selected that best targets the difficulties a client is experiencing. My therapies tend to be active therapies in which you will be involved participant both inside and outside of session. I prefer to use an integrated mind-body-brain approach where possible for faster results and symptoms relief. Therapies provided include:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Please see my Services page for more information about these therapies.
